Why do you think Charley helps Willy even through Willy's obvious state? Charley gives Willy money to pay off his debts even though Willy constantly taunts him. And why won't Willy just accept Charley's job oppurtunity? Is it all jealousy or is there more?

I think that Willy feels that it is kind of embarrassing for him to work for his friend. It is not really jealousy. I guess that Charley really cares for Willy, just like how Bernard cared for Biff.

Even though Charley says he is not Willy's friend he really is and still cares for him. As for Willy refusing the job opportunity, I think that Willy is a proud man and if he were to accept this job he would basically be showing his brother Ben, even though he had passed, that he was wrong to keep the job he had when Ben offered him a job too.

Willy does not understand the concept of friendship and that Charley offering him a job is an act of kindness. He instead views accepting this job would make Charlie more successful than himself, and therefore he would be a failure. Willy always acted like he was more well-liked than Charley and it is unthinkable to him to submiss and be what he sees as Charlie's inferior. Yet he proud enough to borrow money under the false pretense that he will pay Charlie back
