Toward the end of the play, when Biff cries, is he really crying because he loved his father, like his father thinks, or is he is crying because of something else? Also, why do you think Linda can't cry at the funeral? And did Linda ever learn that Willy cheated on her?

I think Biff is crying because he can no longer take his father. Biff can't find any way to get through to Willy. When they are at the restaurant and Biff tries to explain to his father what happened with Oliver his father interrupts him so many times that Biff states to Happy
"I can't talk to him" (Miller 109). I think Biff is tired trying to please his father and telling him what he wants to hear. I think Linda can't cry at the funeral because she knows who her husband really is. I believe she knew he was a "phony," she just hid her belief the whole time because she loved him.

I think he really is crying because he loved his father. He wants to reach out to him so badly, but he can't because of the barrier that the past has created between the two (Biff finding out about the Woman) I'm not sure if this is right, but that's how i interpreted that part. Biff is really not angry at his father as much as he is angry at himself for all of the failure in his own life. when he is crying, he is showing his father that he feels like he is nothing but he also forgives him.

I think that Linda didn't cry at the funeral because the reality of the whole ordeal has created a sense of hopelessness in her. She was let down so many times by Willy, with all the times he had to borrow money from Charley, the times he tried to commit suicide, and in general the way he treated her. By the time he dies, she isnt as in love with him as she was when they got married, and his death is not as big of a deal as it should be.

I was trying to figure out the significance of Linda not crying too. Inititally I thought that it was because she had to live most of her life without Willy's physical presence and that she felt that his death was not yet real. I also considered that maybe he had transformed from the man she loved to a stranger she felt a great responsibility to take care of and her not crying is sign of relief. She showed so much love towards Willy throughout the story that this contradiction makes me all confused again...
