Whatcha Readin'?

Take a moment to post the book you're reading for your first quarter. This should NOT be something you've already read; rather, choose a book you've either just started or would like to read. See me (or Ms. DiModica) for ideas. Check Novelist for options (on ebsco), too. Post title/author/why you chose the text as a comment. I'm currently reading The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, and when I finish that, I'd like to reread Night before I see Ellie Wiesel speak next week. I'm hoping to steal my next book choice from your suggestions!

If you don't have something specific in mind, I'd highly suggest something off of my "recommended reads" on your book list: When the World was Young, The Awakening, Ava's Man, Lesson Before Dying, Gang Leader for a Day... a big plus? These books are available at this week's book fair.

All Too Human by George Stephanopoulos (the political analyst on ABC). It's his memoirs on when he was a top advisor in the Clinton Administration. I wanted to read an inside look on U.S. politics before the election and all.

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen. I was looking on Border's website, and i did a search for the kind of genre i wanted (realistic fiction/romance-ish) and when i found this book and read the back cover. i was really interested because it sounds like a perfect book.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen... I love Sarah Dessen books, and the one Amanda's reading, This Lullaby, is really good too.

Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer, which is the 4th book in the Twilight series. I read all the previous books this summer and couldn't put them down. It is a romance/fantasy which combines for some great reading.

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom. I've heard really good comments on this book.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer(I'm in the middle of reading it). I always wanted to read it because all my church friends, school friends, and everyone else has been obsessing over it (well, at least the girls have). I hear it's a fun, romantic, vampire book, and I've always enjoyed reading fantasy books.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. I remember someone (I think it might have been Lauren) who told me it was an amazing book.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin.
It has french on the first page- a good sign. Also, Ricky told me I should read it over the summer and now it's on the list of recommended reads, so it is looking pretty promising right now.

Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. I want to finish off the Twilight series so I am prepared for the movies coming out soon, even though the first movie will have nothing to do with the fourth book. After that I plan to finish The Host by Stephanie Meyer. I started it in the summer and never got a chance to finish it, but it was really good and I want to know how it ends!

When the World Was Young by Tony Romano, because I've been meaning to read it for awhile now, and of course because he's a Fremd teacher!

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey because it was on one of the Oprah's Book Club recommendation list. Also I read the summary from the book review site and it looked interesting.

Sure Fire by Jack Higgins and Justin Richards. I really like mystery stories. With a spy story like this, it gives you a lot of questions to solve as you read.

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.
I heard about it a while back, and looked it up on Wikipedia. I thought it looked cool, but didn't get the motivation to read it until now.

The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman. I've heard the title over and over during conversations in which I felt slightly ignorant, and I think it will be an interesting read. If I don't like it then back up is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

After much thought, I have decided on Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. I've heard some good things about this book from kids in my spanish class and after reading about it, it sounds like a good choice.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I want to read this book because many people have recommended it. My mom read it for a book club and said it was a good book.

Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. I read The Awakening and thought it was really good and amazon.com groups the books together.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
It's about a little boy dealing with his father's death. It's a metabook so I think it will be pretty interesting.

Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan, it's the tenth book in a series I'm reading.

A River Runs through It by Norman Maclean. I saw the movie based on this book and I liked watching the movie a lot. I picked this book because I am interested in how life was like back in the early 1900's.

1984 by George Orwell-Recommended by a friend. Also, the plot and theme seem very interesting (especially the psychological manipulation).
